I love April. The flowers start blooming and the trees start budding, the days are getting longer, we (usually) get to celebrate Easter, there's a week of sleeping in and no schedules for Spring Break, it's my favorite Queen's and my friend Susie's birthday (the later just so happens to coincide with "No Housework Day), and the NFL draft takes place. Actually, I could care less about that last one but the guys in my family really get into it and it's fun to hear them talking about it.
Here's some April Happenings happening around the Hiemstra house.
I got a new yoga mat. I don't actually do yoga but it's nice to do my stretches on. I thought it might motivate me to exercise more often. Not completely sure it's working but it is really pretty.
I watched lot of tennis matches.
After one in Bellingham, I took my favorite tennis player out for Thai!
John brought in A LOT of dirt to redo out front yard. It had a big dip where water always accumulated in the winter and it was just super rough. That was a big job but it's all seeded now and the grass is just starting to come up.
Tulips were late this year but are always worth the wait!
I had coffee cart at church Easter Sunday so I decorated my almond cookies with all different Spring pastels.
Lunch was at my house this year. John did the flower arrangements and Katie hid the eggs (unfortunately inside since it was cold and rainy).
These two cuties really liked the finger jello I made. I'm fairly sure it's all they ate.
I made the kids pose for a picture before the egg hunt.
I love it when this tree at the end of my driveway starts to bloom.
We started another project. Sigh. This is what John is calling, "The grandkid room". It is the space above our den and you'll be able to access it from a swinging bookcase in Sam's room or a ladder in our den. It's about five feet high at the peak. John helped our contractor drywall it and it wasn't fun. I got the feeling that finishing off the room was going to be extremely low on his list of priorities so I told John I thought I could do it. Translated, that means we could do it.
It wasn't fun but I have to say we did a pretty good job for two amateurs and there is an immense sense of accomplishment doing it yourself.
Because I have no shame....this was my sanding get-up. The mask is to keep dust out of my lungs and the dishcloth around my head is to keep dust out of my nice headphones.
We taped and sanded three times and then primed and painted it.
The whole in the ceiling in the den. This will eventually have a built-in ladder.
The electricians got the lights and outlets in.
One Sunday I convinced John to take a walk with me. It was just sprinkling when we left but when we were about two miles from home, it started to pour. We were SOAKED.
Katie had her first POPS concert for choir. Her group dressed up as Wizard of Oz. She was the wizard.
Her best friend Lucy was Grumpy from Snow White.
The choir sounded great and it was a really fun night.
John and I helped with the food.
This cool retro table and chairs came into the thrift store. Good thing I didn't have a spot to put them or they would have come home with me!
And that was our April.
Actually, one more big event happened but I can't share it until Holly comes home. We want her to be surprised. I can't wait until she reads this and then immediately calls me!
