Today
Today I will try my best not to make fun of people that got up in the middle of the night to watch the royal wedding.

My kids clean up good
I hope everyone had a blessed Easter! We went to two amazing church services and in between had a wonderful lunch by Gary and Sally. Here are some pictures of the kiddos before church...
I bought this dress for Katie Kat months ago and she has been asking to wear it ever since. I finally said yes! She kept twirling and saying, "I Cinderellie!"!
Sam got a new shirt too. He wasn't nearly as excited to wear his new Easter apparel as Katie was! BTW (just found out yesterday that this stands for By The Way), I got call number five from the school nurse yesterday. Yes, he's only in the first grade and I've gotten five phone calls from the school nurse. She doesn't even say, "This is Lori, the school nurse" anymore, it's just, "Dee, this is Lori". This time him and his buddy collided on the playground. Sam's tooth versus his buddy's head. I called a couple people to pray on my way to school since the nurse said that one of his permanent teeth had come out and they couldn't find it. Turned out, the tooth she thought had come out was one that hadn't come down yet. A baby tooth next to it was knocked loose too. I took him to the dentist anyway since he was pretty bloody and swollen. The dentist thought his tooth might have gotten pushed back up into his gums a little bit but thought it would probably be okay. I think his exact words were, "Time will tell." I'm thinking that I'm going to get him a cool gold tooth to replace it if he ends up needing a new one. Wouldn't that be cool?
And here's my Holly. We actually got to spend time with her on Easter since there was no play practice. Her show starts tonight. I am so excited! I'm pretty sure I'll be more nervous than she is, that's usually the way it works!

Me: If you go into the neighbor's backyard then her alarm system will go off and the police will come and arrest you.
Sam: Mom, little kids don't go to jail. They go to Judge Judy.

Just a quick one...
to let you know we're all still here. It's been busy but fairly uneventful at the Hiemstra house lately. Here's just a little update for all those friends and family members that I don't get to see often enough and who I really wish would come visit me in this state where it doesn't snow very much but it sure doesn't get much sun either and I remember when we first moved here and everyone came to see us and now that we've been here for five years, everyone has forgotten us. Sorry. Not sure where that came from. Some one better visit me...soon. Back to the update...
Little Miss Sassyfrass here is still the princess of the house. Besides drawing on herself with markers; she enjoys helping mommy bake, playing in the dirt, puzzles, watching "moobies", singing, having tea parties, pushing babies in her doll stroller, and bugging her big brother. I have started taking her to Story Time at the library and she loves it. Sometimes she gets so excited during the singing and finger plays that she just can't help herself and turns a somersault in the middle of the "reading rug". I am happy to report that she is now 100 percent potty trained. She's been accident-free for quite a while now but has always insisted that someone help her on and off "the throne", get her bath tissue for her, and just generally stand around and wait for her to finish so she could be congratulated and high-fived. Thankfully, she recently decided that she no longer needs us and takes care of business all on her own.
This handsome little man is doing great too. His toes are healing nicely, and just in time, because soccer started. We just got Sam's report card and we found out he is smart just like his dad and he is sweet and well-liked just like his mom. His latest loves are guns and Legos. He recently changed his career goals from being a soldier to being a policeman. He is still planning to marry his good friend Becca and although I am slightly biased I think she is getting a really great guy.
I am still married to John and he still likes to cut down trees. He is busy, busy, busy at work but still (mostly) enjoys being a doctor and has great co-workers. He is planning to take a little time off at the end of the month to visit his sister in Georgia. He is still as handsome as he always was...although he does need a haircut real bad.
This was the only blog-worthy picture I could find of meself. I got these new shoes last week. Aren't they cute? And the best thing is...Holly can't fit her ski-pole feet into them! All is well with me except for the fact that spring time is taking a long time getting to Northwest Washington. I am ready for some sunshine and flip flops! Lately my job as a domestic engineer has been very heavy on the chauffeuring side - it seems like I am always driving the kiddos somewhere. I guess that's just the phase we're all in right now. I am LOVING my new kitchen and am happy that I don't need to spend so much time at Lowes and Home Depot. John reminded me the other day that we still need flooring but I told him I am taking a hiatus from home improvement decision-making for a while longer.
And then we have this little beauty. This is the most recent picture I could find of her. Okay, not really, but it does seem like we never see her! I think she still lives here because I still wash her clothes and she eats our food. Play rehearsals have been taking up lots of her time now that the "Wonderland" is only a couple more weeks away. For those of you who live in the area, tickets are now on sale. You don't want to miss this one...I hear the unicorn is just amazing! Holly spent her spring break in Arizona with my folks and four days in California with her 8th grade class - she keeps telling me she's going to be a guest blogger and share her pictures but it may just have to wait awhile. I really missed her while she was gone and told John that I may need him to move his practice to Sioux Center in four years when she's off to Dordt. He just gave me "Dee-you-are-really-crazy" look. Holly was also gets to be a bridesmaid in my sister's wedding this summer. To say she is excited would be a gross understatement. Her and my mom tried on dresses when she was in Arizona. They sent me some pictures and although she looked beautiful, she also looked way too old. What happened to my little girl that loved to wear twirly skirts, pink, and anything with glitter on it?

Our Spring Break Get-a-way
Our Spring Break holiday here in Washington was missing one thing...spring. It has been very wet, cool, and virtually sun-less here in Lynden so we decided to escape to Eastern Washington for a little get-a-way with two other families. It wasn't real warm there but we did find the SUN! John got to golf, Sam and Katie got lots of attention from the "big kids" and I got to spend time with the ladies chatting, hunting for golf balls, playing games, and eating whatever I wanted. I love vacations!

What's been a happenin' at the Hiemstras
1. Spring break did not start out so good. Sam caught his foot in my new treadmill (yes, it had been in my house for less than 24 hours) and mangled some toes.
2. John is going to lots of church meetings again. After four months off, he is deacon again. That has to be some sort of record. Just don't ask. 3. My sister is ENGAGED! YEAH! I have asked her repeatedly for a nice picture of her and her betrothed but she has yet to send me one. The wedding is set for July 1st so she is in serious wedding planning mode. My mother needs to come home. 4. Katie Kat has really been into hagel sandwiches lately. I'm pretty sure that I heard once that "hagel" means mouse turds in Dutch. I know lots of Dutch people read my blog. Is that right or just a nasty rumor?
5. Holly will be a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding. She is beyond excited. 6. Speaking of my eldest, she is gone. I miss her a lot. She is spending Spring Break with Grampa and Gramma in Arizona...where it is warm and sunny and can eat ice cream more than once a day. I took this pic right before she left to remind me of what she looks like. I miss her.
7. Have I mentioned that it is Spring Break? This means that my other two children are home with me. All. Day. Long. I'm not sure why my mom and dad didn't want them??
8. I'm sure a lot more has been a happenin' but it's almost time to head to the Thrift Store cause if your not there right away at 10:00, all the good bargains are gone. I will leave you with lots of pictures of my newly remodeled kitchen. Everything is done but the floors. I am very happy with the way everything turned out. Come over and see it if your in the area...although it probably will not be this clean!
