Katie: "Hey Mom...do you know what my favorite position in soccer is?"
Me: "What?"
Katie: "onthebench"

Overheard
Holly: "Dad, what would you think about me getting my nosed pierced"
John: "I think you should wait until it stops growing."
Holly: "When is that?"
John: "Never."
Katie: "GROSS! There's a hair in my pancake!"
Me: (in an exasperated voice) "You know what Katie? You seem to be doing a lot of complaining lately. Maybe you should just be thankful for things."
Katie: (in a sarcastic voice) "Thanks for the hair in my pancake."
John: "I think you should wait until it stops growing."

Mother's Day
I had myself a lovely Mother's Day this year. It was a beautiful, sunny day and after a delicious lunch (that I didn't have to lift one finger to prepare) we sat on the deck all afternoon. Edie and Becky came over too.
I am so blessed to be called mom by these three. I love them so much.
I think they kind of love me too!
I'm so thankful to have an incredible mom, mother-in-law and Grandma also.
Happy Mother's Day!

Mother's Day a little early
Sam made me this amazing Lego creation today....
And not to be outdone, Katie made me this one...
I'm pretty sure I've got the best kids around.

JSB
Holly's JSB (Junior/Senior Banquet) was last weekend. She had a great time! It was a nice day - warm but a little overcast, just perfect for taking pictures. I took lots and lots so if you're interested in seeing beautiful girls and handsome boys all dressed up, keep on reading otherwise you can go on about your day.
A close-up of the shoes. She borrowed them from a friend. I LOVE them and Katie called them "Cinderella shoes".
A close-up of the hair. No, I did not do her hair.
Big sister and little sister.
Holly doesn't normally wear much make-up so she asked her friend to do it for her. I love how Lauren is holding her head still because Holly kept giggling.
Holly threatening Isaiah with the boutonniere pin. Somebody needs to invent an easier way of attaching those things.
The girls.
Me and my girl.
The boys. Can you tell they are all involved in drama?!
Actually, can you tell that all six of them are involved in drama?
After taking pictures at a friend's house (don't they have a gorgeous backyard?), we went to school. There was a punch reception for parents before the kids left for the actual banquet. It was so much fun to see all the kids all dressed up!
Holly and Cassie.
Most of the Boyfriend Bears teen board.
John was able to sneak out of work early and made it to the school to see Holly. She was so happy to see him - she is a HUGE daddy's girl.
We took some pictures on the football field and bleachers too.
I think this ones my favorite.

Notes to self.
Note to self. If Katie drops a huge container of liquid hand soap on the floor and if said container shatters into a gazillion pieces and leaves a huge puddle of soap on the floor, then one should not mop it up with beach towels and then simply put them in the washing machine and hope that everything turns out okay.
Note to self. Even if the forecast doesn't call for rain you should always bring an umbrella (and a parka) to soccer games at Northwest Fields.
Note to self. When Katie say she's going to go over to Becky's and help her in the yard she isn't really going to help Becky.
Note to self. You don't need your entire hand to sample apple vodka. These people know what I am talking about. Lucky for me this is my small group and it is a safe place where nothing one says or does leaves the group.

Note to self. When Katie says she really doesn't want to play soccer and you convince her to play soccer by telling her that treats are provided after every game she probably isn't going to get real into the game.
They're probably discussing what kind of treats they get after the games over.Tuesday, May 6, 2014
Pops Concert
A couple of weekends ago (I know, I'm behind again) was the highly anticipated Dinner and Pops Concert put on by the high school choirs. Holly was the color "red" in the rainbow from "Wizard of Oz" this year. Isn't she cute?
Katie needed a picture with her big sis. By the way, Katie's legs are getting so long. She is growing out of all her pants, it's a good thing Spring is here and we can call them capris!
The concert choir sang.
Holly and Lauren (isn't she the cutest Peter Pan?)
Holly and some boys.
The six amigos.

The chamber choir sang.
Sonny and Cher even showed up! Every year the choir director and his wife (who happens to be Holly's violin instructor) sing together. This one was especially fun since I am a huge Sonny and Cher fan. I'm still mad at my mom for getting rid of my Cher Barbie doll. It wasn't my fault that my sister took her into the bathtub and got her hair all tangled up.
Holly and Cassie. It was Cassie's last Pops concert. That makes me sad. Holly and Lauren (isn't she the cutest Peter Pan?)

Such a fun night! I need to start convincing Sam that he wants to be in choir.

A little more from Creative Arts Week
Remember those cute pictures of my kiddos dressed up like Pioneer Kids? That was only one special thing they got to do for Creative Arts Week at school. The theme was Little House on the Prairie and there were lots of fun activities. Kids dressed up, had a chuckwagon cookout, walked to school one day, took a field trip to the Lynden Pioneer Museum, participated in one-room schoolhouse learning, and even got to feed calves and shear sheep!
I should have gone to school to take pictures the day of the big cook-out but I didn't make it. However I did manage to borrow some pictures off the school's website for your viewing enjoyment.
I did go along on both kid's field trip to the museum.
My favorite part was learning about the buggies.
Katie's favorite part was churning butter.

They had some special things going on at the high school too. One student demonstrated his gift of chainsaw carving. He donated his finished creation to the school and John helped him set it up in it's permanent home.
What a fun week! I love our school!
