Summertime is Funnertime #6

As I was getting ready to start posting about our vacation, I found these pictures that were taken before we left.  Here's one more Summertime is Funnertime post!
John's sweet niece and her super cute little family from Oregon were vacationing in Bellingham so they came up to Lynden to spend a day with us.
Little Maddie is so cute and she liked Holly's swing.
Another one of the "coffee lady's kids" got married.  I've been in this group for about 13 years now.  I've been watching these kids grow up.  This is the fourth one married and we have two grandbabies now so I guess that means we are getting old.
The beautiful bride with the coffee ladies (minus one).
John thought we should get one of the coffee lady's guys too.
Holly and I were very excited that they served poffertjes at the wedding!  I may or may not have eaten more than one plate of them.
John was cleaning off the roof of the cottage one afternoon and got these great shots of our property.
I ordered lots of floaties for our houseboat adventure.  Katie and Brooklynnn needed to test one of the rubber rafts out in the creek.

Vacation pictures coming soon!!

First day of school

All my kiddos started school on Tuesday.
This is Holly's last first of school picture.  That's pretty weird.
On Monday night I read her this book for the last time.  I also read it to Katie, Sam opted out.  I've been adjusting it every year so Monday it was "The Night Before Senior Year of College" and  "The Night Before Fifth Grade."
Sam started high school.
He's pretty excited about it.
Can we just take a moment and look at last year's picture?  I'm pretty sure none of my kids has ever changed so quickly in one year.   He's like a man now.  That's pretty weird too.
And my Katie Kat started 5th grade.
I'm kind of digging the pineapple backpack she picked out.
This is her first year in the middle school.
She wasn't real wild about me following her in and taking pictures with her teachers but she tolerated it.  This year she has two teachers.
Here's to a great year!!

Summertime is Funnertime #5

So I meant to have all my "Summertime is Funnertime" posts done before we went on our summer vacation but that obviously did not happen.  Now I got all these awesome vacation pictures (thanks to Hannah and her new camera) and school started yesterday and I'm not done posting about our summer yet, and I'm not ready for summer to be done yet and I chipped a tooth eating trail mix...and I need to just quit complaining and get blogging.
So here's my last (and very long) Summertime is Funnertime post.
Katie went to soccer camp during one of the hottest weeks of the summer.  Every afternoon when I picked her up she was rosy-cheeked but smiling!
Sam went to Young Life Camp in Oregon.  This was his second year going.  No pictures since electronics are not allowed (hallelujah) but I stole this picture off their website.  I'm thinking they should call it a resort instead of camp...nothing like the summer camps I went to that's for sure!
I was in charge of food for this year's Rock the Block (our church's version of VBS).  Not sure why I don't have any pictures, probably because I was too busy serving food.  It was another scorcher of a week but things went well.  Every day after lunch I had the cutest little boy with lots of freckles and Harry Potter glasses come up to me and thank me for the delicious food.  He totally made my day - I was hoping to run into his mom at the carnival so I could tell her what a good job she was doing.
One evening we had a family game night and Katie volunteered to serve us ice cream.  She had a form that we could all fill out which included flavor of ice cream, topping choice, and what size spoon we wanted.
John and I managed to sneak in a couple of date nights into our busy summer.  On this one, we used a gift certificate a patient had given him...hence the alcoholic beverages.
Katie got a friendship bracelet maker at the neighbor's garage sale.  I love how she uses her feet to hold it steady.  I felt quite honored to receive the second bracelet she made (the first one was for her).  She has a pretty lengthy waiting list right now so at this time she is not taking any new orders. :)
Holly got a call from her former berry boss asking if she could help out one weekend.  She said she had fun but she likes being a nurse better...thank goodness for that.
Katie was asked to go along with her friend Brooklynn's on their family vacation to Lake Chelan.  She had a wonderful time!  The rest of us were a little jealous when Brooklynn's mom started sending us pictures.
Yep, that's John trimming trees.  His big fall last summer did not hinder his love for trimming trees.
I loved having this gal home for the summer!
When Katie was in Chelan, the rest of the family took in a Sounders game in Seattle.  Lots of fun and they won 3-1.

I was determined to clean out my kitchen cupboards this summer but it was just too nice to be inside.  I did manage to get to about 1/2 of them.  It's a big, ugly job.
We got this dahlia new this spring and I'm pretty sure it's my new favorite.
Thanks dad for planting our dahlias this year, you did a great job!  The plants were so tall this year.
Between camp and our summer vacation, we knew Sam wouldn't get much time in the berries so instead he put in quite a few hours of work in at the Hiemstra-hide-away.
We needed to take advantage of my two-for-one blizzard offer one afternoon.  Carly really thought she needed one too.
One afternoon Katie and I did a little shopping for our houseboat adventure.
Target (which I normally don't shop at) was having a Harry Potter day so we stopped in to get some free stuff (because even though I don't shop at Target, I have no problem taking their free stuff).  Katie got sorted by the sorting hat.  She made it into Gryffindor house which surprised me a little bit, I though for sure she'd be a Ravenclaw...that is going to make no sense to you non-Harry-Potter-people.
You know it's been a fun summer day when your feet are this dirty!
Summer, I'm going to miss you.
Come back tomorrow for our back-to-school post!
